"Copper hit a new record on the London Metal Exchange on Thursday as shrinkning stockpiles and production disruptions stoked supply fears.
BHP Billiton (NYSE:BHP - news), the world's biggest miner, said labour disputes and equipment shortages would likely persist for two years. It added that rising global demand would likely result in a shortfall of copper concentrate through to the end of 2008 as planned new mines and plants come online.
Meanwhile, the LME said stockpiles in its warehouses had fallen to the lowest levels since April 19, representing just two days of global consumption."
